I would say it was probably a mix of both human and climate caused. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/ecog.01566/abstract

I love what CJ said about the Kitava study. I have written…er…ranted about this more than once on my blog. My favorite line from the latest one: “Human beings can thrive on a variety of diets. But that does not mean that *all* humans can thrive on *all* diets. Different population groups thrive on different diets *because* they are those populations. WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO ACKNOWLEDGE?” 🙂
Robb Wolf says
DETAILS!! Don;t bog me down with details!!
Kul says
I will thrive on all human diets, thanks to epigenetics

“…at the beginning of her talk she was saying
they didn’t eat a lot of animal protein but then at the end of it, there was virtually no plant material to be eaten but yet these people were big, strong, robust, and active so what the hell did they eat, you know?”
Exactly! There’s the narrative that meat was hard to get, plant foods were low calorie, bitter and fibrous things, hunter-gatherers had parasites that stole calories, often went hungry and missed meals, but did a lot of physical activity, did more thermogenesis and had a respectable degree of muscle mass.
Something has to give here, and as you found out with iCaveman, eating more leafy greens doesn’t really help that situation. On the other hand, relying on a reasonably consistent source of energy dense calories (particularly meat and starchy vegetables, in whatever ratio) makes a lot more sense
Great podcast!
