Hey Y’all!
I just wanted to update folks on the pending nutrition certification/education material we will be offering. We still have a lot of work to do on the curriculum and infrastructure, but here is what things are looking like:
1-A general seminar for folks mainly looking for “how to” information but with enough science to put paleo nutrition into a good context. This would be fine for most anyone, regardless of science background.
2-A certification (pass/fail test) geared towards coaches, trainers and allied health professionals. Competence in basic biology, chemistry etc will likely be necessary to pass this course.
3-A certification (pass/fail test) geared towards MD’s, DO’s, DC’s and research scientists. It will be assumed that folks taking this route have a “very good” background in biochem, cell biology, immunology etc.
I’ll roll out specifics on the material and a timeline (hopefully) in a few weeks. For now I want to make folks aware of an academic “Gold Standard” we will use to provide a common framework for everyone taking part in this curriculum and that is the Evolutionary Studies program offered via SUNY New Paltz EvoS Program. This 18 unit minor offers a comprehensive introduction to the concept of evolution from an interdisciplinary perspective. The EvoS program will provide the “glue” for our education curriculum. Folks can take the coursework online (over the summer!) and upon successful completion of the program will submit a request to the Evos program director, Glenn Geher, to send confirmation of completion to us at robbwolf.com. Like I said, I’ll get the details up soon, I just wanted to let folks know about the EvoS program now so they can make appropriate arrangements if they want to start the program in the summer.

Would the basic certification be open to those that aren’t couches etc yet? Lifestyle coaching and nutrition are things im interested in doing in the future and would love to get something along these lines in Paleo nutrition/intermittent fasting etc.
Robb Wolf says
Absolutely, but it’s important to know what the education level is for a given cert. we WILL have some coaches pass the MD/PhD cert for example, but not many. Due simply to the lack of basic education.
Kevin says
I’m excited to see your new certification. You can never get enough education.
Robb Wolf says
We are hoping it will be both rigorous but also very helpful.
Jenny says
Hi Robb!
Just checking to see if I get it. There will be 3 cert options, and the EvoS minor is a requirement for all?
Thanks 😉
Robb Wolf says
1 seminar, 2 certs, Evos will be an additional designation. We will list folks who pass the cert on a resource page. The Evos will place them in a “Gold Standard” position…and will be required to be considered as an instructor. We will recruit instructors from the folks who are stand outs in the cert.
Brenden says
Hi Robb,
Would the seminar be a 2 day certification kind of knowledge base almost like a crossfit level 1 cert, or would it be just a one day of fun with Robb Wolf and team?
Thanks for all you are doing!
Robb Wolf says
Half day, lots of time for Q&A, good info but lots of fun.
Diane @ Balanced Bites says
Awesome. Can’t wait to hear more!
Cody says
Although the 3rd cert is geared toward MD’s, DO’s, DC’s and research scientists, could someone with adequate background take the 3rd cert?
I’m very excited for this cert.
Robb Wolf says
Absolutely! It’s will however be quite rigorous for folks WITH a solid background. It won’t be easy!
Rob says
Hi Robb,
Can people from Australia do the course online or will we need to come over for the Seminar first?
Robb Wolf says
I believe anyone, anywhere can do the Evos program.
Tom says
Sweet! For us anthro geeks who already have the Evos stuff built into our degree, do you know if anyone is willing to determine that we meet the criteria?
Pattie says
So excited for this to get started…Never enough education!!!!
Eva says
Can’t wait to be enrolled in this!
Robb, do you guys have a ball park price for the certs yet?
Spencer Cuckney says
Excited about this 🙂
Josh says
Great news! As a 3rd Year Med Student I’m looking forward to the 3rd option. Would there be any issues completing this before I complete my MD?
Rene says
I’m Excited. I am tired of the SAD certifications.
Blair says
Will this certification be able to count towards CC’s for other certifications, like my personal trainer cert?
Robb Wolf says
That’s the plan.
Linda says
As a physician – I’m very excited about this! May have to brush up on that biochem!
Chad P. Edwards, DO says
Can’t wait to hear more about this! Will there be adequate study materials & time? You know, we ‘docs’ “know everything” yet don’t know squat! Its truly amazing what we DIDN’T learn in medical school. Keep us posted!
Linda says
Hi Chad – Since coming across all of this information in the last 8-9 months, I am completely surprised at what we didn’t learn in medical school. I am reading papers from way before I was in medical school with sound, scientific outcomes – yet – none of it was ever mentioned! I know it takes a lot of money to re-do a curriculum at an institution, but I think this is important stuff! Nice to know I’m not alone! (KCOM grad).
Chad Edwards, DO says
Linda, thanks for the reply! Yep, we could truly fill VOLUMES with what we didn’t learn! Robb (and some other things like Prolotherapy) have revolutionized the way I practice medicine. To the extent that I can’t go back to ‘here’s your diagnosis, here’s your medication’. This stuff makes medicine FUN again! I’m looking for someone to join me in a new clinic soon… let me know if you want to move to Tulsa! 🙂
Shannon says
Kind of embarrassed to ask this–I’m nearly 15 years out of college and did my best to dodge science courses while there. Turned over a new leaf with paleo and, for many reasons, I would love to pursue the certifications. I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to take the intros to bio/chem at my local community college before the SUNY courses. Looks like several of the courses require completion of basic bio/chem courses, which even if I took them in college I doubt I’d remember much. I was considering going back for a degree in biology or anatomy, but this seems like a much better option.
Robb Wolf says
I honestly think if you’ve had it you will be able to review when you need to. but it really does depend on your situation.
Zach Even - Esh says
NICE! If U wanna hit NJ, you have my doors open as a host! say the word, homie!!!
Robb Wolf says
Thanks man!
Ian says
Robb,
College Freshman here. I’m currently studying for my NSCA personal trainer’s certification with my dad (father-son delusions of grandeur regarding a gym are in the works) and progressing through a major in biology. With that said, I’m really interested in the 2nd certification option you mentioned above; however, as is the case for many a folk nowadays, finances are an issue. Is the cert going to be on the pricey side?
Thanks,
-Ian
Robb Wolf says
Ian- Not sure honestly, we are hashing out the details. As a professional I think you just need to tackle this stuff in a multi-year fashion… prioritize what you need now, squirrel away cash for future CEU’s etc.
CathyL says
Glad to hear that you don’t have to have the EVoS … I was doing a quick bit of math in my head and the out-of-state rate of $597/credit hour for an 18 credit hour minor was beginning to feel a little daunting.
Although I would love to get that minor at some point in time, for now I’ll be looking forward to the coaches’ seminar/cert!
Thanks for putting this together.
Cathy
rob says
Hi Robb,
Will this course be open to people in Australia?
bruce says
Rob
Would these courses count toward a physicians CME requirements?
It sounds great
Thanks
Robb Wolf says
We are shooting for that but I must say, the CME bodies make that VERY hard. We are looking at a large sum of money, an 18 month review period and no guarantee we will be approved. So we’ll see.
Chad Edwards, DO says
Just my 2 cents here… I do a lot of studying on things with absolutely no hope of any CME, simply because I need the information. I say go with what works and don’t sweat the CME stuff too much. Any doc that knows the advantages of this information will be all in. Even without CME it is still a business expense. While I’d like to see CME credits, not sure its worth all the hassle for you. I’ll come either way. Plus, you promised some NorCal margaritas previously!
Tim Brown says
Hey Robb,
Had a blast hanging out with Shawn last November. Anything I can do to get wheels in motion for a roll-out in Australia you let me know.
Tim Brown
Tammy says
Will there be courses offered in Europe? I understand the EVOS is online, however the additional nutrition courses seem to be in the USA only. Could you offer more information or let the Europeans know if there is a chance for Paleo certs in the EU? Thanks for all you do!
Robb Wolf says
We will come to the EU!
Kyle says
Hey Robb-
I was just accepted to PA school starting this June. I am extremely excited about this added ceertification you are offereing. Would midlevel practioners (PAs and NPs) have the opportunity for 3rd level certification as well? Thanks.
Kyle
Robb Wolf says
Anyone can take these it’s just a question if folks have adequate background to pass. I think you’ll be fine.
Ashley Geggis says
Hi!
I’m very excited about this and looking forward to getting the certification for allied health professionals. Is this something that would be transferable credits to a college?
Thank You
Ashley
Kirk Bate says
Hey Robb, this looks awesome. Do you guys have any plans to bring this to Australia?
Kirk Bate says
Didn’t read the previous comments. +2 here anyway for any certs to be held in Australia!
Josh Tolland DC says
+3 for the Australian certs
Love the book and podcast Robb but would love to attend one of your seminars/certs, states is a little too far atm
Matt Gray says
+ 4 (and I’m sure many more!)
John M says
Hey Robb,
Is there a mailing list i can be added to so im kept in the loop regarding the EU certs/seminar?
In the meantime. i shall get cracking on my EVOS
Robb Wolf says
Just sign up for the newsletter, we will be rolling all info out through that and the blog.
Summer Wesson says
Application – IN! Any indication as to how long the nutrition certification will take after the minor in evolutionary studies is completed? And approximately the cost?
Machu Baxter says
Robb,
Would you take a few moments to confirm tuition information for the online summer program? Your website and Geher’s currently link to each other for this information. CathyL above cites $597 per credit hour, or $10,746 for the Minor.
paleo boot camp says
Robb I am so excited you are putting this together, we already have a several of people who want to do this at Paleo Boot Camp. Look forward to all you offer!!
Lori T. says
Hi! I am a BSN Registered nurse, who is extremely interested in furthering my education to become a nutrition consultant (Paleo). I’ve been doing a lot of online research. This sounds like its right up my ally, except for the possible price…. And do I need a Master in Nutrtion as well? I’m 38… Will the per credit hour price be the same for those participating totally online as it is for those at the SUNY campus? I’m excited, but I’m not sure what kind of education I need to help people in a professional capacity…
Dylan says
Hey Robb! Great stuff! Most of the classes are full now. Are they planning to do online courses in the Fall, Spring, or next Summer? Also, could we do your Certification and then do the EvoS program at a later date to then gain “Gold Standard” status? And another….Is your program going to be like the CrossFit Nutrition Certs (i.e.-all over) or is it only from one location or can we possiblly, hopefully go through it online…? If I could get a reply to my email address it would be great.
Thanks,
D
Meg says
I live in Florida and have the same questions as Dylan…
Very exciting!
Thanks, Robb!
