Here is my story. I have been over weight all my life. I have been on so many diets since I was 12. I took Dexatrim when I was 13 and starved my self. I did the cabbage soup diet, then tried the so called healthy low calorie diet. I finally tried Atkins, and it was great, but I started craving carbs. I felt I was missing something. I lost 40 pounds but it came back and then some. I tried the Zone and eventually I felt destined to be fat until I die.
I thought I was the healthy fat girl, but by the time I hit 38 years old I was on insulin for diabetes and had high blood pressure and high cholesterol. That’s not counting the tons of ibuprophen I was taking because my knees were buckling under the pressure of 252 pounds on my 5’3″ frame.. I lived that way for years until I finally got sick of being sick.
I walked into my doctor’s office one day and was reading a health magazine and there it was, the Paleolithic diet. I read the menu ideas as it went on to say that this was another fad diet. I took that book home and started googling all the info I could. I loved the idea of eating meat but I also loved the fact I could eat fruits and vegetables.
I started making Mahi Mahi with fresh mango salsa, shrimp ceviche, and chicken kabobs. I had such an array of foods and flavors, I fell in love with the diet. I don’t think of it as a fad diet. It is away of life for me, and now my husband follows it with me. After three years I have kept it off. I went from 252 to 126 and fluctuate to 136.
I had so many people that asked me how I lost it. When I tell them, they would tell me to write a book. I laughed it off. So after a couple of years I decided to publish my journal as well as some recipes I made. I will never see Paleo as a fad, it’s my life.
The best part is I now am free of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. I can now roller skate and exercise with no pain whatsoever. This was an amazing makeover for me and at 50 I couldn’t have been more blessed.
