I am a 65 year-old woman. Since the age of seven, I have suffered with what the doctors at that time diagnosed “spastic colon” but which today I think would probably be called “Irritable Bowel Syndrome” or IBS. You know the story: chronic gas, bloating, diarrhea.
Because of this, I have always shied away from public places and events. I never knew when I would have to run to the bathroom, and the “gas factor”…well, I could pretty much clear a room. If we went to the theater, I would have to sit on the end of the row in case I would have to make a quick exit. I stopped going to parties at some point, and although my husband understood, it caused a separation between us, as he would go and have a good time, and I would sit at home feeling sorry for myself (and indulge myself in a second martini).
In January, 2012, my daughter handed me the book “Wheat Belly;” I tried going gluten-free, and saw immediate results–what a relief! It was like night and day…except that I continued to have occasional bouts of IBS symptoms, which turned out to be from the dairy I continued to consume. Cutting out gluten and dairy has given me, for the first time in my life … (drumroll, please) a HAPPY GUT!!! Then, in January of 2013, that same daughter “dragged” me to a seminar given by Diane Sanfilippo. And the rest is history.
I have been able to go off my blood pressure medication, my antidepressant, my anti-vertigo medication, my statin drug, my multivitamin and calcium supplements, and the daily aspirin regimen. (All this was done with my doctor’s skeptical approval — but now that she has seen the results of my bloodwork, and the fact that I bounce into her office, hop up onto the examining table and proclaim, “I don’t have an achy bone in my body! I feel better now than I did when I was 35!” she now says she’d like to record our visits so she can share what I have learned with her clients suffering from obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and the myriad other diseases of our modern society.
I forgot the best part: I lost 27 pounds without ever feeling like I was on a “diet”.
Thank you, Robb. This truly has changed my life, and I happily share my story every chance I get.
