Servings: 2 1/2 cups
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons ghee, melted
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 1/2 cup nuts (almonds, pecans, cashews, and macadamias taste best)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 300F.
2. Heat ghee over medium-low heat, then add cumin, cayenne, and paprika. Cook until fragrant, about 15 seconds.
3. Place nuts in a large bowl. Pour oil over the nuts and toss well to coat. Add brown sugar and salt; toss to coat.
4. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for about 20 minutes, til they’re lightly browned. I like to check them at 10 minutes, rotate the pans, give ‘em a shake, say hello. Allow to cool before storing in an air-tight container; serve at room temperature.
Notes: The balance of salty-sweet-spicy makes these almost irresistible, and they’re always the first thing to disappear off the holiday snack table. They’re super easy to make, and they’re a really nice hostess gift, too. Or, ya know, you can just eat the whole batch yourself. In a robe. Watching ‘A Christmas Carol.’
