Hey everyone!! Things are heating up! We are on our way to NJ for the opening day book signing at the Borders in Ramsey, NJ at 7pm. The next week will be critical for our run for the NY Times best seller list! Spread the word so we can crush this!
After the podcast goes up tomorrow, possible sooner, we will migrate content to the new server (no more “Database errors!!”). We will likely disable comments until the migration is complete. For some folks the switch may happen instantly, for others it may take up to a day. If things look weird try refreshing your browser as you may have problems with cached versions of the site. Since the comments will be down Facebook and Twitter will be the best ways to stay in touch for a day or so.

Robb,
I recall hearing something about Glutamine supplements possibly having gluten cross-contamination since it is derived from glutamic acid. Is this possible?

Hey Robb, got a question for you before you migrate servers.
I’m one of those persons who gets stressed out really easily. I suffer from bad insomnia as well and do not get long deep sleep unless I’ve gorged on wheat products (oh the contradiction)…. which I consume maybe only once a month when I take a break from Paleo.
For a year I’ve noticed that when I am stressed out and have had little sleep, my abdomen bloats like balloon even though I haven’t eaten anything. Vitamin C appears to help. I take 500mg vit C after morning exercise and sometimes in the evening if I feel stressed, and my abdomen doesn’t bloat up so much. I have been supplementing with vit C this way for two months now. I know that it might hinder training adaptation but at this point, lowering cortisol is my priority.
I have also been trying out Now Foods Mood Support capsules (ingredients can be found here http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Mood-Support-90-Vcaps/8214?at=0), taking none, one or two a day depending on how I feel. They too seem to help a little.
My question is:
In one of your earlier podcasts I think you were querying whether taking 5-HTP from an artificial source might cause natural production of that to fall. So now I am a bit concerned about continuing on these Mood Support capsules after my current stash runs out. Is there anything else at all besides change of job and change of country you can recommend to help control cortisol and help people calm down and stay calm?
I am 5’4, 118lb, and eat Paleo most of the time. My exercise is mostly a 30 minute to one hour slow walk or slow row in the mornings, some heavy weights if I’ve had sufficient sleep, occasionally a 30 minute to one hour slow walk in the evening to help me relax and “walk away” from work. Once or twice a week I may do some sprinting. But never any metcons – I’ve ditched those for a year now.
The supplements I take everyday are 500-1k mg vit C, 0-2 Mood Support capsules, 5k-10k IU vitamin D, a Kirklands multi-vitamin, 4k-5.5k grams omega 3s. Once every few days I take a teaspoon of Natural Calm.. that thing makes me gag.
I try to make my room as dark as possible at night, and I drink one cup of instant coffee in the morning only if I have had good sleep at night and do not feel stressed.
