I’m always surprised at the questions that go something like, “Will this kind of diet help _________?” (Insert condition of choice.) I think a much better question would be, “Is there any reason this diet *wouldn’t* help?”
Big picture, folks, big picture. It’s hard to imagine much outright harm (if *any*) coming from taking sugar, refined vegetable oils, and inflammatory foods out of the diet, loading up on micronutrients, correcting fatty acid imbalances, getting more sleep, lightening up on the stress load, and getting fresh air and physical movement to whatever extent possible.
Madness, I know, but like Robb says, this stuff is so crazy, it’s almost like it actually works…
Bottom line — someone either starts feeling better, or worst case scenario, they don’t feel better and just end up going a month or two without bread, cookies, & cheese. Seems like an inexpensive, low-level, non-toxic intervention that either has no effect, or damn near saves someone’s life. (And *quality* of life.)

I have Narcolepsy and have been using Wahls Paleo Plus to manage symptoms. There is actually a sizable group of PWN that are using dietary and lifestyle modifications to improve quality of life.
My dietary changes started 6 years ago with a gluten free diet and has been tweaked many times over, finally landing on the Wahls Protocol. I really like the focus of nutrient density while maintaining ketosis.

Was excited to hear narcolepsy mentioned in the Q&A. I started using a Paleo diet to help manage narcolepsy symptoms by way of a gluten free diet like Amanda (both of which helped tremendously). Paleo gives me about 75% symptom relief, but taking it a step further with the ketosis gives me about 95% symptom relief (maybe due to increased orexin production, which glucose is known to inhibit). I am just now transitioning to Wahls Paleo Plus, and encourage other gluten free PWNs (People With Narcolepsy) to do the same.

thanks so much for all the great shows you have put together and the amazing guests you have been able to get on your podcast recently. Dr. Wahls, Coach Summers and Martin Blaser were my favorites. I think everyone appreciates the effort you are putting into this, despite now having two kids and a lot of other things going on.
