Hey folks, just wanted to let y’all know there are some cool developments brewing with the SUNY New Paltz Evolutionary Studies program. For folks with degrees (BS to an MD) the program will likely be 12 instead of 18 units, and will offer a certificate instead of a minor. For folks hammering on their undergrads, you will complete the 18 unit minor. Either way your curriculum will look something like:
a. BIO 135 (Evolution for Everyone)
b. EVO 301 (Evolutionary Studies Seminar)
c. EVO 201 (Evolution and Human Health – to be offered online starting Summer 2013)
d. Any additional course (i.e., an elective) from anywhere in our curriculum.
Please note another section of Evo 301 has been opened for this summer.
In the Works: I met some amazing folks at the Specialty Health presentation on Cancer and Insulin Resistance. They have links to the World Health Organisation and may provide CEU’s and basic science curriculum for the upcoming cert. Additionally, they may host the online modules…I’ll keep y’all posted on that as we get details hammered out.
Perfect Human Diet Premiere!
I’m planning on being at the PHD premiere in San Francisco, Tuesday May 22, 7:00-9:00 pm. My participation will be a bit dependent on how the Wolf Cub is doing (any day here kid!) but I’ll do my damnedest to go. Let’s go support CJ and have a few NorCal Margaritas at the after party!
Thea Taylor says
Hey Robb, Question….
Do you have to be enrolled in the classes at SUNY to take the cert? What is the goal of the classes? They look really interesting and i would like to take them but money is an issue for me, and the out of state tuition is steep.
Thanks Thea
Robb Wolf says
Thea!! This is just some “gold standard” stuff. Weaving in some evolutionary biology for consistency. The SUNY material is not requisite for taking the cert.
Thea Taylor says
Thanks, one more question. Did it say somewhere in the info material that the SUNY courses would be needed to be an instructor or to progress past the basic cert level?
Thea
Robb Wolf says
Thea- folks will receive badging for completion of both the cert ANDD the Evos program. Instructors for my cert program MUST have completed the Evos program. Sorry the details ar enot 100% fleshed out but they will be soon! Great to see you at PaleoFX!
Michael says
Hi Robb,
I don’t have a BA, but I’m currently in grad school (for a master’s in creative writing) so I can enroll in undergrad biology/chemistry/etc. classes.
If I wanted to take the New Paltz curriculum, what “prerequisite” courses do you think I’d need to take first?
Thanks in advance!
Robb Wolf says
Just those classes they recommend. You should be good.
Barbara says
Hi Robb, I have a B.A. in Literature and an M.A. in Library & Information Science – I currently coach at a Crossfit gym and have been eating paleo for almost 2 years and want to help others. Am I eligible to apply for the Cert?
Robb Wolf says
totally, anyone can do this.
Jess says
Is the course something someone can do from Sweden?
Robb Wolf says
YES!
Andy Barge says
Woo! And quite possibly Hoo!
rick hammond says
Hey Robb,
I am very concerned with what has happened to the diabetic blogger in Carolina and even Dr. Lane Sebring in Texas because Paleo nutrition coaching was supposed to be a big part of my full-time Paleo chef service. I turned 60 last month and will retire from my corporate gig in 3-5 years so to get ready for this event would you consider publishing a topical outline/study guide for the highest level cert? I’m quite sure I could pass the first level but I very much desire to achieve the highest level cert for my future business.
I am a former recording/electronics engineer and have a good background in chemistry/science etc and am willing to add some online courses as need be to my self-study program (you, Nora G., James Braly, Jack Kruse and Lehninger et al) to make this happen.
Sorry I missed you at SUNY New Paltz, would very much like to meet you someday and as a former kickboxer I think you might be very interested to share some of my gung-fu, kuntao-silat training particularly our “hard” chi-kung strength exercises (Chinese isometrics).
Thank you Robb for any advice you may offer and thank you for all that you do in general; I would not be where I am today without your book and other writings!
Best regards,
Rick Hammond
(your Holiday Recipe ‘Festive Beverage’ winner)
Robb Wolf says
Will do Rick!!
Seth says
I finished my PharmD 4 years ago and entered the “real” world with 100K in debt. I would love to complete this cert but I can’t justify the cost. Have you considered a 5-day/weekend cert that include some sort of pre-rec self-study online course work? Thanks!
Robb Wolf says
Seth-
The SUNY piece is NOT the cert, it’s in addition to it. The basic cert curriculum will be much less.
Robb Wolf says
And likely online for the most part.
The Curvy Goddess says
You changed my life Robb Wolf. I am completely indebted to you and a new groupie of yours. Had no idea that all of my struggles with my weight was because I was eating wheat and grains.
Thought it was because I had a truck driver’s appetite and that was normal. Went to OA and went to therapy for my “eating disorder”. My last personal trainer told me that I was lazy and didn’t listen to him. He wanted me to eat 6 small meals a day. I’m sorry but intuitively it was dead wrong but I didn’t know why. Now I know.
I’m also a personal trainer in NYC. I’ve taken wheat and grains out of my diet for the past 30 days and dropped 20 pounds effortlessly. I sleep soundly now. My joints no longer hurt and the swelling around my ankles and bags under my eyes have disappeared.
Yeah, I’m taking the Paleo Certification and preaching this TRUTH to everyone at ears length. People are suffering unnecessarily.
Thanks again Robb.
The Curvy Goddess says
BTW my real name is Diane Williams. 🙂
Jen Segger says
Hey Robb!
Just wondering where you’ve posted the details on the Paleo Certification? or have you? Stoked. Keen to get rolling as soon as you are. Thanks for all the knowledge that you share!
Laura says
Hi Robb,
I am currently enrolled in The Institute for Integrative Nutrition. (Also a program accredited through SUNY) I graduate in January can start seeing clients in October. I have been eating Paleo for well over a year and want to ground my practice in the Paleo lifestyle. I have a BS in Education and will emerge an accredited Health Coach when this progam is done. Am I elegible for this program? If so is it a distance or online program and is there a website to go to to check it out? Thanks Robb!
Laura
Robb Wolf says
short answer is yes, it will have both distance and in person elements depending upon the track.
Bree Bojdak says
Hi Laura, im looking at the IIN at the moment via corespondance. Can you recommend it? im not curretly in the nutrition field, but am going to jump into it as a career change in a big way. Living all over the place, but big into Paleo. what are your thoughts? where there any other institutes that you looked into to study with??
Beth says
Hi Laura
I too am looking at the IIN program. Any info you could share would be awesome! Thanks!
Beth
Kristina says
Hello Beth –
I am currently enrolled at IIN and it is the best decision ever! I love every facet of the program. It covers 100 different dietary theories, not just Paleo (which I practice by the way). In addition to IIN, I am concurrently pursuing certification in Sports Nutrition through ISSA and life coaching certification with Tony Robbins…it’s busy! I am the Nutrition & Health Coach at CrossFit Stamford in CT and if you would like to contact me for more information about IIN or use my name for an additional discount when you enroll please do so. You can look me up at http://www.thriveresultscoaching.com or http://www.crossfitstamford.com
I think this Evolutionary Studies certification looks great! Thanks Robb…
All the best,
Kristina Hess
Jessica says
Looks like the summer EVO classes have already started at SUNY. Does this mean I won’t be able to start until next summer at the earliest? Or might there be some classes added to the fall/spring curriculum. There currently aren’t any listed.
Sara says
What about if I want to take the cert ASAP, but I might want to also get the “Gold Standard” designation in the future (ie. take the cert before completing the EvoS program)? I’ve already missed the boat for this year’s EvoS program, and if your program happens to come out before I can enroll/finish the SUNY stuff you can bet I’ll be jumping at the chance to take the cert!
Super stoked to hear that this is in the works, and looking forward to the details!
Robb Wolf says
Sara-
Most of the cert itself will be available online (perhaps all of it) so you will not be able to “miss” it!
markus says
ROBB! What up brother! Just wanted to say thank you for building the foundation of what is one of the most important nutrition movements in our era! I can’t wait for the new certification! I’m part of the original crew who took your course in San Diego when you were a part of CF. Cheers
Eric Infanti says
hi Robb. any thoughts on timing for the cert?
Josh Dunn says
Hey Robb! Any news on the cert? Do you have any other recommendations of other nutritionist certification? I am looking at completing one ASAP. Thanks and keep up your amazing work!
Caeliean says
Dude, yo quiero tu Paleo Nutrition cert. Necesito lo! My friends want me to shut up or put up, cause I’m apparently a broken record. I don’t want to go get a PhD to become a dietitian cause I’ve already done three degrees and although I’m a teacher, I don’t much care for study if there’s no naps and recess involved… I just want to flash this Cert as a confidence trick to have people (like my extended, not yet deathly ill family) take me seriously without me walking them through the biochemistry/evolution theory/anthropology lectures that seem to be necessary to prove what I know. I’m a primary school teacher, what could I know…?
The fact that I don’t make anyone vomit from my farts and have good energy, and no belly etc. doesn’t seem to be enough. I live in the UK now, and things are way more certification oriented here. Nobody listen to nothing mang. Besides my wife, who having added back the beasts and kicked the neo-nasties, is feeling better than any veggie we know.
Please, let me become ‘Palcertified’ Palcified? Palified? Ceriloed? dunno, it’ll be your brand baby, you’ll call it something suitably catchy, I’m sure. Yoroshiku ne!
Alicia says
I am also VERY excited about the cert!!!!!! Ive been waiting for this to augment my coaching ability for awhile now. Where and when will we be able to apply for it? Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication!!!!!!
melina says
Hi Robb!
Very excited for this cert. Any updates on when the online cert itself will be available? And cost? I think this will augment my holistic health coaching and cooking for well being training really well. Thank you for helping us help others!
Melina says
Robb, please keep us updated on the details of the Paleo certification as you move forward. An online module would be awesome. You can count me in for your first class 🙂
Gailyn says
Robb,
My little girl just fought through cancer. I have my whole family on Paleo now and can see a huge difference in her energy & strength.
I’ve been a chef for several years in clean cooking owning several restaurants across the county. I also film my shows and teach cooking classes. I teach my first Paleo cooking classes by demand next month & Can’t Wait until your course comes out so I can be certified.
Keep me in the loop! Thank-you for all you do-

Hi Robb,
Can we please get an update on your Paleo Cert? I am researching different correspondence certifications and one backed by you would definitely be at the top of my list… details please! Thank you.
Kim says
Hey Robb,
Any word on the cert. course? We are all holding our breaths for this….

Wondering what the status of the Cert program? Looking for a new path and would definitely be interested in this. Thanks!

I’m holding my breath for this certification! haha! CAN’T WAIT!
Vicki says
I am so excited for this certification! I already have a master’s degree, but my real passion lies in Paleo nutrition. You can count me in! Please keep us updated on details!
SimonM says
Thanks for this initiative, Robb.
Looking at the New Palz EvoS course, I am sure glad you are not making this a pre-requisite. Some of the confusion/questions here are because SUNY state “Per the posting on Robb’s blog, note that the 18 credit EvoS program (comprised of undergraduate courses) offered at SUNY New Paltz will serve as a foundation of the certification program.” http://www.newpaltz.edu/summer/evos.html
It is not clear from the New Palz info exactly what their course is, nor how long it is – ie degree or certificate, what prelim courses have to be done – I’ll ask them direct about that. But at a conservative estimate it is going to cost a minimum of %15k.

Robb:
Any news on the Certification program?
Kelly Crabb says
Do you have an update on when the Paleo cert will be offered? Thanks!
Mike says
Any news about the certification?
Robyn says
How will we know if/when this becomes available?
Anya says
Hey Rob,
Is this program offered online? If so can you attach a link for me please? I live in GA and the Paleo population is limited. Thanks
Christopher says
It will be offered online, but hasn’t been released quite yet. It should be out in the near future.
John L says
Rob just finished your book and did a 45 day challenge at south rockland ny crossfit…where can I take this certification and can I do it from home
Thanks
Robb Wolf says
Not finished quite yet, it will be offered online.
Molly says
Can’t wait for your cert! Do you have a rough estimate when it will be released to the masses?
Robb Wolf says
“Soon”!!!
Phoebe says
Robb,
Just heard your great podcast with Jason and Sarah. Will your certification be something that anyone can get? And if so, will there be any practical application for it? Or, is this just something that you are putting out for a certain group of people? Thanks for all you do! Phoebe
Robb Wolf says
Phoebe- one cert for trainers, one for allied healthcare providers, one for MD/DC/DO
It’ll be very practical but also very difficult!
RACHEL DOUGLAS-HENRY says

Hey Rob,
Are you referring to September 14th??? For the Certification course to be released?
Robb Wolf says
No set date yet.
Andrea McCready says
Okay, thanks for the quick response. I’m looking forward to it and will keep checking back.
Robb Wolf says
You will see fireworks and hear music when it’s done!!
ROB says
Hi Robb is the certification ready yet?
Squatchy says
Nope, not yet. Hoping for early 2014 release.
ROB says
is the certification READY YET?
Tracey says
I think like many, I am curious as to when the certification program will be released. Can you suggest another program if your program isn’t going to be a go for January 2014?
Karen A. says
Standing by and super excited to hear the deets on the cert! wo0t!
Bret says
Will the training include business start up and development for those of us that would like to pursue a career in paleo-centric nutrition advising?
Bret
mark says
Any hard timeframe for the cert ? Just got my CPT and am desperately looking for a nutritional cert that fits the paleo lifestyle. MDA has one coming out in Feb, but I’d be more interested in a program backed by Mr. Robb Wolf (no offense to MDA)
all the best

Angelina says
Hello Rob,
I have been living the paleo lifestyle for nearly three years and I am very interested in becoming certified in Paleo Nutrition. I reside in Calgary, Alberta Canada. Is the course online and available?
Squatchy says
It should be online, but is not available quite yet.
Megan says
Just ran across this thread. Any word on this program yet? Thanks!
Squatchy says
It has been put on the back burner for right now.
Nina says
Anything new on the certification, guys? :)) Thanks!
Robb Wolf says
Hey Nina! So, I’d hoped to make the cert be part of the risk assessment program, which has proven much more difficult to get off the ground than I’d anticipated. In the time since I’ve been working on the RA program, there have been a number of certs offered, so I’m not sure as to the value at this point.
Nina says
Thanks for the info, Robb! I feel very intrigued by Mark Sisson’s Primal Coach cert, but I was still waiting for you to step in the game 😀 Looking forward to your new book though, waiting on the edge of my seat to get it as soon as it is out 🙂 Have an awesome day! 🙂
Robb Wolf says
Thanks Nina! I’ll noodle on the cert a bit more but I really don’t want to do it as another “me-too” offering.
