Today I declare myself liberated.
Three years ago, I was 263 pounds. My body fat percentage hovered around 43%. I was stretching the buttons of a 2X shirt and bulging over my 40-inch waist jeans. I was sick, tired, and lazy. My sleep was terrible. I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and my snoring caused us to have to sleep in separate the bedrooms. I was put on high blood pressure medication. Later I was prescribed a high cholesterol medication that we couldn’t afford. I had little to no desire to do the things that I loved. I was miserable.
So my wife Gina and I started our journey back to health. We had dieted many times only to fall back into our regular ways. For a couple of years we were fading in and out of different programs. There was some progress, but we still weren’t at the place we wanted to be.
In November of 2019, we caught wind that Straight Blast Gym was opening a location in New Braunfels Texas. This was exciting for me as I have trained jiujitsu for years and was familiar with SBG and their quality of instruction. So I did some digging on who the instructors would be at this location. As an added bonus, it would end up being about five minutes from our house. And that’s how I came to know the Wolfs. I also figured that I better get in shape!
Gina got me a copy of Wired to Eat that Christmas before hi-jacking it and reading it first. Within a few pages, she simply told me,”We’re doing this.”
On January 12th, we went Paleo. We enjoyed our new foods and the results. We dug into The Paleo Solution and The Healthy Rebellion Radio podcast. Robb and Nicki became our family discussions. Few days go by without someone saying, “Well Robb says…”
With the opening of SBG, I finally got back on the mat. It felt good to be able to move again. After hearing Emily Fletcher on your show, I made the decision to add the yoga and meditation to my training. We signed up the whole family!
In April with the COVID shutdowns, we did the Keto Masterclass and switched to a Ketogenic Diet. We learned about new things like Macros, Ketogains and Cronometer. The results in weight loss, fat loss, and subjective measures have been phenomenal.
Today I am 179lbs, BF% 28, wearing a size large shirt, and 34” jeans. I’ve had to get smaller uniforms at work. I’m off the BP medications. My energy is through the roof. I know that I have significantly reduced my risk of diabetes and heart disease. I sleep very well at night. Gina tells me she barely notices if I snore – yes, more importantly I’m back in our bedroom!
I’m switching modes now. I’m not so much worried about my weight anymore. I’m focused more now on body composition and strength and mobility.
You guys have changed our lives and I cannot thank you enough. Gina has her own success story coming & I cannot wait for her to share that with you.
But for now, please add me to your headcount of liberated folks.
I am FREE!
