Glen Nagy says
Do we know what percentage of people with epilepsy respond to the ketogenic diet? Have there been large studies of newly diagnosed people with epilepsy who have not tried any drug treatment? Most people with epilepsy that try the ketogenic diet only do so after multiple drugs have failed. If people only try keto after drugs fail it doesn’t really give a true reading on how many people respond to the diet. I was aware of the keto diet before my son started having seizures 7 years ago so we put him on the diet before trying any drugs and he has been seizure free.
Robb Wolf says
Glen- If you look at the data BEFORE the drugs were developed you get a sense of the efficacy…which was like 80% remission, improvements in most of the remaining 20%
