Questions:
1. Crossfit Football
Andy says:
Hi Robb and Greg,
First, Greg, American Weightlifting documentary is fantastic. Watched it no less than three times. Well done.
Robb, you’re cool, well done on that.
In all seriousness, thank you both for all the info and the invaluable resource you provide.
My question is pretty simple. What are your thoughts on Crossfit Football? I know that Robb and John Welbourn are buddies and I’m sure Greg and John are, too. I just started the program on the amateur progression trying to eek out some strength gains with old fashioned linear periodization.
I feel like the emphasis on heavy lifting, with an actual lifting program (not random strength thrown in for giggles whenever a coach at a local box feels like it), and the emphasis on short conditioning sessions, make CFFB a much more efficient program to drive positive adaptations in body composition, strength, and power than normal CF programming.
What are your thoughts on the programming, methodology, etc. for someone not wanting to go to the games but just to be bigger, faster, stronger?
I don’t know…Crossfit football makes me want to grow a nice full beard, wear lots of flannel, and have meat on the bone every meal. Ya know, manly shit…
Thanks guys,
Adam
2. flat footed weightlifter
Cody says:
Hey fellas,
I’ve tried tracking down some evolutionary purpose for flat feet (i.e. collapsed arches) but can’t really seem to find anything helpful.
First question: Any thoughts on the purpose of flat feet from an evolutionary perspective?
Second question: How does this affect weightlifting? I’ve been working on the olympic lifts here at Coach B’s for the past 6 months and, in the past, I’ve had trouble feeling comfortable in bottom of the squat during both the clean and snatch. I’ve since relegated myself to using inserts and it’s now much easier to sit at the bottom. Maybe because my ankle is better aligned with the knee? I don’t wear inserts at other times and work on making sure I have proper knee and foot tracking while walking and standing.
Anyways, what do you think about using inserts? How does duck footedness affect other lifters you know?
Thanks for the help guys!
-Cody
3. Tucking during cleans
Ariel says:
Whenever I do cleans I end up bringing my knees to my chest in the air as if I am doing a tuck jump. I have tried doing a series of muscle cleans before my clean attempts, but once I go for the full clean I go right back to my bad habit. Any suggestions for things that I can do to prevent myself from continuing to do this?
4. Robb’s Amazing BS Detection
Gorificus says:
Robb Wolf, in an article you mentioned you were good at sniffing out bullshit from co-dependent types and narcissists that don’t want to take responsibility. They say you can smell fear.
Any advice on how to do this? It’ll make knowing when to know to stop talking to people about paleo a lot easier.
PS: it seems my parents are just like yours only not as sick. At this point they have a paleo library of their own but my dad still doesn’t seem to know that white bread, like whole wheat bread, also has wheat in it.

5. Constipation in Kids
Scott says:
Hello Robb:
Thank you for all of your amazing work; you have helped so many people.
Since you are a father as well, I am hoping that you will have the time to answer this question for all the other paleo parents out there.
My three year old son, who is on a fairly strict gluten free diet, mostly grain free (with occasional exceptions), and does eat grass fed cheese, and healthy fats, has been dealing with constipation since birth. He was and is still breastfeeding if this makes any difference. We give him a probiotic in the morning with his food.
At the recommendation of our naturopath, he’s been on miralax for the past year.
He has a bowel movement every three or four days if we’re lucky, and it’s typically a big ordeal with lots of “pushing” and discomfort.
Sorry for the long background story. Here’s my question….
From your perspective, apart from the typical suggestions of prunes, etc., what else can we give him that will help with this and still be in line with our diet? Is there a better probiotic we should consider? I’ve heard so much contradictory discussion about the importance of fiber.
Also, we just stopped the miralax. There’s been some controversy about giving it to children. It’s been about a week know, and he’s had a lot of cramping and borderline diarrhea after being off it. Any thoughts on the dangers of this product.
Thank you so much!
30 Day Guide to the Paleo Diet
Want some extra help? Have you been trying Paleo for a while but have questions or aren’t sure what the right exercise program is for you? Or maybe you just want a 30-day meal plan and shopping list to make things easier? We’ve created a getting started guide to help you through your first 30 days.
The link is for last week’s episode (236). I’m ready to hear what Greg has to say! It’s been a while.
This appears to be a duplicate of Episode 236 with Dr. Blaser.
The download link is incorrect. Greg has still not returned!
Looks like ya’ll accidentally uploaded the wrong podcast…this one is from last week
Sorry everyone. I copy/pasted some of the post from the last episode to use for the post for this episode, and when I went back and changed the link to episode 237 from 236 I must not have hit update. It’s fixed now!
I find myself in the same circumstance as Scott (the guy asking the question about his child with constipation). I would love to get an update from him to see if he was able to resolve his child’s issue over the years since he asked that question in 2014. Do you still have his info? If so, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to ask if he was able to find anything that helped. Thanks
He said:
“At ten years old, he’s much better now. Ensuring that he drinks enough water, eats enough fruit, and has a daily routine of sitting on the toilet after breakfast has helped a lot. He occasionally gets constipated still and we’ll use miralax for that. I know others had success with mct oil too. Hope this helps!
Scott”
Re: the other Scott’s question. Seriously consider cutting out the cheese (and any casein containing items). Casein interacts with opioid receptors in the gut and can seriously slow things down. I know in my case, even small amounts of casein will have serious effects for like 3 days. This would also mean cutting out milk.
For the baby with digestion issues, the first thing that comes to mind would be the cheese for sure. I would try to cut that out and see if it helps.
My day was dark and dreary until I read that Greg is back. Now it’s all rainbows and unicorns as I’m listening once again to that baritone chuckle. Alright!
GREG!!!!! Glad you’re back!
