If you are a fan of heroism and remarkable self sacrifice, the story of Operation Redwings will likely stir deep emotions in you. I know a number of people intimately tied to this story and have had the honor in being included in some of the remembering and ceremonies of the heroes. Words simply fail and feel so damn trite when comprehending the bravery and sacrifice of these men, and the untold suffering of their families in the aftermath of their loss.
So that the memory of their sacrifices do not fade, several memorial organisations have been created to honor these fallen heroes. I was asked to spread the word about one project, the Memorial Day Murph which will benefit three separate charities: Wounded Warrior Project, Lone Survivor Foundation and the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation.
How You Can Help
1-Sign up and participate in this event on May 30th 2011
2-Own a gym? Spread the word to your clients. Join CrossFit Works and CrossFit Albany in supporting this event.
In the aftermath of loss on this scale what we have is community. Each other. Find folks you care about and rejoice in your ability to be with them by supporting this very worthwhile event.

Thanks for sharing this information, Robb. I just completed the Bataan Memorial Death March marathon at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico this past Sunday. The whole purpose of the event is to honor and remember. There were 14 Bataan Death March survivors present, and a large group of the Wounded Warriors participated in the march.
I was humbled by the experience and it was my honor to share the marathon route with so many members of the various branches of our armed forces. It was estimated that there were 6,400 marchers, and more than half were military.

Awesome Maryann. How far is that from Sant Fe? I’d like to participate in that next year.

Looks like just under 300 miles… I drove over from Sealy Texas (about 750 miles) to participate and even got in a wreck in El Paso the day before. With all that said, this was the most memorable event I have ever done.

Thanks! Hopefully my run at it is a bit less memorable ;0)

Robb, Thanks for your support with Memorial Day Murph. It is going to be a great event and hopefully a new Memorial Day Tradition.

Robb,
Thanks a lot for mentioning our event on your website, this is going to be a great event and hopefully a new Memorial Day tradition.

Josh-
the least I could do. I’ll be contacting you via email also.

I’m glad you’re bringing this to attention on your website. Though we have a small home gym, we are planning on participating! For too many people, “Memorial Day” has more to do with the beach and BBQ than with the memorial part. This is a great way to remember, participate, and help others.

Thanks Robin!
