If you have not noticed, the term, movement and concept, generally referred to as “Paleo” has absolutely exploded of late. This is the “30 year long, overnight success” starting with Boyd Eaton’s original New England Journal of Medicine paper, and culminating (at least as of today) with the nearly 20K downloads of the Paper by Pedro Bastos, Loren Cordain, Maelan Fontes:
The Western Diet and Lifestyle and Diseases of Civilization.
Over 10K downloads were generated in less than a day. This is UNHEARD of for a scientific paper. What this means is the Paleo movement is not just growing, but becoming very interesting. In that line I’d encourage you to participate in the 2011 Paleo Community Survey.
What will the information be used for? No idea as of yet, but science starts with data collection, so this is the first step in starting to quantify who is involved in this movement and what the involvement has meant for everyones lives.
Hey Coach Wolf!
Definitely going to par take in the survey but I had a question concerning a client and some stomach issues (anyone else in the community who wants to chime in on this please do, Im all ears.)
Client; Female 27?-ish very lean 5’4″ likes long walks etc etc.
Basically she is having stomach issues almost covering everything: irratation, bloating, pain, indigestion etc.
She is considering possibly having an issue related to fructose in take which I have not heard about it until she mentioned it but from what she told me certain people have an allergy to fruit and getting checked out for that. She was kind enough to track food and symptoms – obviously my first suggestion is to cut out the crap she is nibbling on – second is to recommend removal of fruit for 2 weeks and see if anything changes. She has admitted to being stressed (sometimes uber) as her fiance was just in Iraq loaded with a 50 cal on top of a humvee. She’s also in the process of trying to figure out if the stomach problems are post workout only.
Just wondering if I can get the Dr. Wolfs recommendation

We’re catching up to the vegans, Robb!
http://www.google.com/trends?q=paleo,+vegan
Indeed we are, an with a much smaller time frame, no backing of governments or dietetics programs.
The journal seems an odd choice. Why didn’t they go for one with a high impact factor?
Because WE are the impact factor. nice open acres journal that allows foe what will eventually be over 100k downloads.
Could not happen in a closed access journal. This is seriously perking some people up about the evo-biology/Paleo schtick.
I’ve been posting the link to the Cordain et al paper all over the place. However, it also helps to get 20K downloads when the article is free unlike Boyd Eaton’s original New England Journal of Medicine paper.
Greg
awesome idea with the survey… i would love to see the results, will you guys be releasing any of the statistics?
Took the survey, thanks for the heads up, I liked the site as well. All people supporting paleo are ok by me. The whole ‘naturally engineered’ is a good way to describe our movement to friends as well. Paleo just sounds way to fad like.
If I could post a picture of me dancing a little jig I would. Great news!
Don’t forget 1975’s “The Stone Age Diet” by a gastroenterologist named Walter L. Voegtlin arguing for a low-carb Paleo diet.

Ah! Forgot all about that, thanks Doc.
