Paleo Physicians Network is LIVE!!

Well, It’s off life support anyway. It has a few buggs and I’m getting used to the back-end, but it’s finally rolling. For a simple front-end you would not believe the back-end that went into this thing.

What we need from y’all

We need doctors, pharmacists, PT’s, Nurse practitioners, DC’s, ND’s, DO’s, LAC’s…you know, primary care health providers to sign up on this network. RD’s and coaches will have a different site shortly, so hold your horses if you fall into that camp. Tell the folks who know that Evolutionary Medicine is the best medicine to sign up, and become part of the solution.

This is great! My husband and I just moved to Phoenix and could use a new doc.

I moved to Phoenix about a year ago and still don’t have a doc. If you guys find a sensible physician near central PHX please share.

        Joe & DJ -

My Doctor in South Scottsdale is the best Doctor I have ever had, she is attentive and caring, I do not know how she feels about diet, but if you are looking for a Doctor in the area then I do recommend her.

Jimmy Moore has this site for paleo/primal/low carb/evolutionary medicine physicians that has been built up by readers.

    Nice one; many congratulations.

Great to see the international aspect hasn’t been overlooked. I’ll watch the development with interest.

Great idea! My only beef is that the Facebook Connection is quite intrusive. It wants access to a bunch of profile information and the ability to post pretty much anything to my wall? Not going to happen. Other than that, can’t wait for your database to be populated.

    Robb,

I have been a long time follower (years) and have my own blog with a similar message and teach paleo principles to law enforcment..the only agency in the country that I know of..and have never made a post. After reading this, I wanted to say that this is amazing and fully support what you are trying to do. If this takes off, and it will, you will be making history my friend and truly turn the tide. I hate to sound cliche, but keep up the great work brother!

Great news! I love that you have “Paleo” front and center so that there are no illusions about this group’s focus, unlike the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine or the Center for Science in the Public Interest. Those names imply selfless sacrifice to public health, contrary to the awful information they publish. Bravo, Robb!

Looking forward for the Network’s expansion into Canada!

    Hey Robb,
I emailed you recently about my dads Utah doctor recommending the Paleo diet in his cancer treatment. I promise to send the write up you recommended once things really start moving. In the mean time I will contact them and request they sign on. (I can also send you the contact info when I get it)
Thanks for all for all of your hard work!

How are healthcare practitioners added to the database? Is there a screening process?

    • Robb Wolf
      February 9, 2011 at 10:53 am

We do a minimalist screen, it’s on folks to check on health care providers as they would normally, for example checking for malpractice etc. This is an attempt to make finding people easier, not a complex QA/QC process.

Congratulations on the launch, it’s a resource I looked for and couldn’t find about a year ago, which led me to think of the same concept and register a domain (paleodoctor.com yours if you can find it useful). Of course, I didn’t get around to turn it into reality, but it’s good to know someone capable has tackled this. Above @Dexter mention’s Jimmy Moore’s attempt at something similar, but it’s also extremely basic and, I feel, neglected.

    Best of luck!

      February 9, 2011 at 10:43 am

The success is going to be community driven and although I have a soft spot for low carb I think we need something mire sophisticated, and the Paleo/evolutionary biology perspective is a good start.

    Robb et al,
This is so awesome. Since I attended your Paleo Solutions seminar in New York and you mentioned a physician network I have been waiting for this to roll out. A total game changer!!! Nice work brother. Can’t wait to see how this “evolves”.

This is pretty awesome, I’m wrapping up my undergraduate to go into ND school and hopefully one day I will enter this list. May need to see who are the NDs and LAcs around my turf – mine is a vegan!!!

Fantastic work guys!! Huge kudos to Amber and the team on the look of the website. Professional, modern, beautiful, easy to navigate. LOVE the tagline and header graphic. Having worked on websites in the past I can only imagine how much work its taking. I’d be willing to help work on a paleo scientists network if such a thing ever gains momentum. Thank you for all your hard work!!

Just a suggestion: a link on that physician’s network site to the basic paleo low-down for docs. (And maybe some links to the more technical stuff that a doc would actually understand.) I don’t know if my regular doc would be into the paleo deal, but I’d like to forward the link to him so he can check it out. It would be helpful if the basic paleo FAQ could be reached directly from the physician’s network site.

If it’s actually on there already and I just missed it, feel free to disregard and/or ridicule me.

    • Robb Wolf
      February 9, 2011 at 3:09 pm

      Jeremy-
This is not intended (initially) to be an educational site for health care providers. To some degree this is about FINDING those docs who have done the research and are on-board. The site will grow over time, we will offer a certification for health care providers only and then you will see a ranking system fo the providers bassed on education and likely a Yelp like social networking feature.

        February 10, 2011 at 2:24 pm

Awesome. This really has tons of potential, and I’m glad you guys are taking the paleo community in this direction. Keep up the good work!

Robb, what do you think of a program such as this one? Would you accept a grad of this program into your physicians network?

As a Family Physician in Australia I am interested in signing up – would be keen to know if there is any formal accreditation of training in the wings, rather than having just read yours and Loren’s books. (which I have).
My chronic (various!) tendinopathy has all but gone and have just run my first Half marathon, THANKS VERY MUCH!

    • Robb Wolf
      February 10, 2011 at 12:18 pm

Yes! We have a certification program in the works, first offering will likely be in October, possibly at Emory University in Atlanta.

      • Maddie
        February 11, 2011 at 1:26 pm

Robb-Please consider allowing students of medical programs to take the certification classes, too. It will provide a lens in with to evaluate our studies through. Asking smart Paleo questions in our classes, and raising awareness at our schools will help to provide awareness at our schools, with our professors, and our fellow students.

I am so impressed! :) I bought your book yesterday. (kindle)
I am enjoying the read! You have made me laugh out loud many times!
That is talent. I am new to paleo. I started the lifestyle almost
two weeks ago. I still feel yucky. :( I am certain I am eating well.
    I am 49, 5′ 3 1/2″ and currently weight 113.5 lbs. I was 117.5 when I started paleo.

I should add I have a “bug” too. Not certain what! So, I am having
a hard time with feeling like a depressed slug.

I have auto-immune issues. This makes it tough as I have multiple intolerances to otherwise healthy foods. :(

Looking forward to being healthy soon.

    Enjoy your time away!

    February 14, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Can you take a look at the bug when trying to select Canada? It comes up with only U.S. states, not Canadian provinces, and then tells me there is none, but I’m seeing some on the map. Also, should I be able to click on the pins on the map and have the name come up? That would be cool.

Aside from those minor things, we want to thank you for putting the time and energy into getting this up and running. We will definitely be adding our names to the list. Great resource for people interested in truly helping themselves get better.

It seems to be a lot of Chiropractors and not doctors, might have to do with living in GA though… I don’t have anything against chiropractors, but I would love to find a good general practitioner who understands the science behind Paleo!

I have a question for Robb and/or doctors that may be reading this blog.

My wife and I are following the Peleo diet and she has read the book from Robb. We are losing weight, which is good – and we’re using mostly fish as our meat source, with occasional turkey and chicken, and our read meat source being range-grazed bison. However, because we know from medical research that animal fat is a primary source of arterial plaque and eventual problems such as angioplasty and bypass surgery, high blood pressure, etc.

So it would be a legitimate concern for me to introduce any more of these fats into my diet than absolutely necessary. Has this concern been taken into consideration? Is there some “thing” about the Peleo diet that will ensure this isn’t an issue? I’ve just known too many family and friends that have been put on a gurney and split open like a Thanksgiving turkey, for this not to be a serious consideration (and they never seem right afterward) – I don’t want to go down that road, so I’m looking for information and assurance on this.

    Thank you very much.

    David

I am a chiropractor from Annapolis Maryland. I have been crossfitting and Paleo for 2 years. I teach functional movements in my practice ( Squat\DL etc) as well as reverse hyper and GHD in office. My wife and 4 daughters paleo also. Unfortunately getting MD’s onboard has been challenging,ND’s also. Would love to see the schools get some sense of nutrition -they think whole grain lucky charms are great choice.
How do I get on the PPN ?
