Wow, that was a pleasure to listen to. I am a professional economist working in the Ag equipment industry and I wonder about these issues all the time.
Robb, your reference to Austrian Economics is deeply impressive. You really are one of the most intellectually curious, and serious, people around.
As a partial aside, my work the last few years (post graduate school) has helped to evolve my political thinking. Our traditional right-left dichotomy is not serving us well. The entire ancestral health / sustainability movement has demonstrated this.

Brian-
thank you very much for the kind words. I’ve either been fortunate or cursed in that I tend to find ideas/memes/epistemologies that describe the world in a pretty predictable way AND interestingly, they tend to dovetail together. Nash equilibria really refines the outdated “survival of the fittest” as it’s historically been portrayed.
An unintended frustration in all this is that I seem to “always” be on the fringe…it’d be nice to be mainstream on something!!

Good podcast, Robb. I too was impressed by the shout out to Austrian Economics. I myself follow the Austrian school, and I feel that it fits quite nicely with the Paleo lifestyle. It’s very encouraging to see the blossoming gray market popping which embraces both of them. While the establishment continues to curse Paleo and fumble along with its Diet-Heart and Keynesian agendas, the masses are starting to wake up to healthier, freedom-promoting ideas. You’ve been a great force in accomplishing this.

Gosh I got chills when you guys gave a shout-out to the Austrian school!
Great work Robb, it’s nice to do something fresh and free-style every now and then, not just riding the same pony every week haha 🙂 thoroughly enjoyed! (and I think you enjoyed it too)

Thanks man!!

Wow, talk about a podcast full of nutrient dense food for thought! The topics discussed are totally out of my wheelhouse yet after listening to this podcast, I see the connections to my wheelhouse. Please continue to add other nutritious topics to your cornacopia of a podcast!

I will do my best!

Excellent podcast…. I am a fan of Austrian economics but will have to research the Nash equilibrium. I wonder if simple term limits might help push things in the right direction.
Thank you for this invaluable service.

I just LOVE that you have stated the obvious fact that our phones and technology have separated us farther while giving us the illusion that they have brought us closer. Most people find it very difficult to have a face to face conversation, and wow… just let that phone notification go off in the midst of a conversation. It’s not just the youth either.

Long time listener – first time poster 🙂
I really enjoyed this podcast episode and the direction you are heading with health, sustainability, and economics.
This podcast reminded me about a documentary we were required to watch in first year Engineering – Episode 1 of Connections 1 – “The Trigger Effect” by James Burke. It examines the reliance that we have on technology, and threads its way to the development of the plough. The narrator talks about what happens if technology breaks down, and you need to escape the “technology trap”.
“Let’s say you’ve had the good sense and the good luck to look for a farm because that’s where food comes from, doesn’t it? Has anyone got there first, or are the owners still there… people don’t just give their homes away … and what, in your comfortable urban life has ever prepared you for that…”
I must start learning something like Brazilian jiu jitsu do defend my chickens and vegtables 🙂
