I have just reviewed The Paleo Solution on Amazon. I bought the book after a referral from my son’s wife. You can read my review and I recommend you do so.
For your information, I am a very healthy 69 1/2 years old, but have allowed myself to gain too much weight, and that has resulted in elevated blood pressure along with “bad” cholesterol levels. After reading The Paleo Solution, I immediately took up your challenge, and last Friday after thirty days, I met again with my doctor. He was astounded.
Weight loss in thirty days was 17 pounds and two inches from my waist line. I also lost ONE HUNDRED POINTS from my triglyceride count and my HDL and LDL cholesterol numbers were changed a little.
My doctor did not order the hdl particle counts as I had directed in advance of my appointment and I will have another blood test taken shortly. Those results should prove interesting.
Meanwhile, my wife is totally committed to “eating like a caveman” and is thoroughly enjoying the new challenge of creating in the kitchen. She is an outstanding cook and this “fun” for her is yet another benefit to The Paleo Solution.
I have decided to take my weight back down to when I was at my peak as a weight lifter, which is another twenty pounds or so. In addition, I am getting my treadmill on line and am riding my antique ten speed bike as often as possible. In the fall provided I reach my initial goal (another seventeen pounds lost!), I will begin to weight train in the gym again.
As I said in my review on Amazon, The Paleo Solution is the real deal.

My triglyceride count did something similar when I gave up sugar, grains and dairy. In 2009 my triglycerides were 180. I started dieting in December 2011. In Nov 2012 and May 2013 my blood work showed my triglycerides were 52. I have more energy now at 56 than I did at 46 and maybe even 36.

Awesome work, Roger. Seems like triglycerides are largely a proxy for excessive carbohydrate intake. Elevated levels tend to be a sign we’re eating more carbs than our bodies can effectively handle…after all, what we don’t use gets converted to triglyceride for storage. One of the quickest ways to lower trigs is to cut back on CHO…especially refined sugar/grains.

Great job, Roger! Out of curiosity, why are you waiting to go back to the gym? Picking up the weights again (or doing some kind of bodyweight resistance work at home) will help your fat loss goals every bit as much as the treadmill and bike.

After 8 months on a low carb/paleo diet my triglycerides dropped from 173 to 71! My LDL went up from 106 to 138 and HDL inched up from 40 to 42. My Doctor was very impressed, too.

Thanks for the info, Roger. I’m really interested with that book. I just converted to paleo diet and it’s really effective. This book might motivate me more. Thanks again for sharing! 🙂

I’m not totally paleo as yet but getting there.
I have managed to cut out most of the junk and am eating healthier than I have for years. My blood pressure has come down to a much more normal level and I’m looking forward to seeing what my chlorestoral levels are like when I see my Dr this week.
