A big thank you to Dave and Nancy of CrossFit Seattle for hosting this event! Seattle was just like I remember it: Cold, rainy…a little snow and boat loads of coffee! Thank you to everyone who braved the weather! Next stop: CrossFit Central in Austin, TX…Yeeeeeeeee haaaawww!

Ahh, coffee. That stuff keeps me sane during the 6 months of rain we get up here in the NW. Looking forward to seeing you in Portland in the summer, there is a good local coffee shop just up the hill from the gym.

Robb,
I have been following your site for a few months and have enjoyed the info/posts. I decided to go from a Zone-ish/Paleo-ish diet to a strict Paleo just to see how this would, if any, improve leaness.
Perhaps my body is just set where it should be, but I have seen no real improvements since I started 3 weeks ago. I know it’s difficult to make an assessment here, but bit of background:
I make sure to get 8-9 hours of sleep each night, 5-6 CF wods each week and have been strict Paleo for 3 weeks now. Abdominal/gut leaness is same as when I was on Zone and consuming dairy and more starchy carbs on a daily basis. It’s weird. I would have assumed with such a clean diet, I would have seen better results.
Comments/suggestions?
Thank you!!

Maria-
It’s tough to tell without exact numbers on the food. The one consistent thing I have found is the Zone allows people to run lean due to the constant tight control on calories. Basic paleo is good in this regard, but simply lacks the precision. You might find paleo/zone to be the best method here.

Do you believe that say eating a small amount of protein more than one needs as a minimum could stim sufficient insulin esp oer the long term for one to not lose fat or even put it on please ?
Re-reading Senor Taubes i’m wondering this ? Page 394 of the hardback penult paragraph.
When are you bound this way plse ?
Also i sent you an email i received from some colonhealth personage who seemed to think i was you
Thought it was a joke then realized it wasn’t.
One up the bum no harm done !

Hey Robb. I think you look funny without glasses. Congrats on the new eyeballs…Kurtis had 2 tasks at dinner (he failed both) 1. Kiss Nicki on the mouth – really just tell her I said Thanks- HUGE!!! and 2. kiss you on the ass to get a fall date. He says ass kissing will go farther than my nagging anyday. Sorry to have missed you both – next time!
robbwolf says
Ha! We will get you hooligans on the books asap!
Manly Fellows says
Does anyone ‘out there’ know if fat in any way retards the stimulation of glucagon please ?
robbwolf says
Fellows-
Fat does not appear to affect glucagon release. Not an exhaustive research on this, but I think it’s accurate.

Correction:
4-5 CF wods a week and 1-2 CF Endurance per week as well.

Thanks for all the info…even the stuff that flew over my head to the guy behind me. I am officially trying the Paleo. I have to admit you sold me. Once you started to name all the disease’s my mom has…she has had here colon removed and now they tell her to go gluten free…that would have been nice to know years ago maybe we could have saved her colon. Anyways, I never want to go through with that so here I am day three…feeling good…not as shaky and my cloudy head is gone.
Thanks for knowledge!

The understanding that lectins, especially gluten underlie autoimmunity is becoming more widespread. The effort is certainly worth the outcome IMO.

Have fun in Austin – take in some of the SXSW action. Heres a PDF of all the stuff you don’t need a badge/wristband:

Robb, i’ve gotta give you a point out to a great Grass Fed beef source. I’ll let you look into it yourself. Ted Slanker owns Slanker’s Grass Fed Meets (http://www.texasgrassfedbeef.com/). We did a bulk order through our box (CrossFit Hampton Roads). Ted is a great american and he understands the benefits of grass-fed meat. He goes 100% grass fed. Absolutely ZERO grains. He’s got a great newsletter (this guy should hang out with Coach Glassman). He gave us a great discount as a box and I’d like to pay him back by giving him the appropriate exposure. Nicole and I ordered a quarter cow and we’re going back for more when that runs out. Any way you could look into his site, form an opinion, and if good, post a quick note on it?
Thanks,
Jeremy

You know what would be better? If I could spell Meat!
robbwolf says
Jeremy-
If spelling precluded success I’d be in serious trouble!!

Thanks Robb, always informative to listen to you speak! Since I moved from Seattle I forgot how much coffee should be part of my life, and that I should make fun of their lack of sun more often. Oh yeah, and that zone paleo info wasn’t too bad either.

Robb,
Another question if you don’t mind. My mom was also told she has pre-Osteoporoses she was tested and put in the chart right on the edge of yellow and red. Later, she went gluten free. She went back to the DR.’s he said he had never seen some one get stronger. She is now in the yellow close to the green being good. The Dr. says he didn’t know how she was doing it neither did my mom. I was talking to her last night and said mom what if it is that you are gluten free … everything started to click for her. I know you mentioned this in the lecture but…what is the relationship between Osteoporoses and gluten?
