A HUGE thanks to Stephane Rochet for hosting the most recent CFNC. If anyone gets a chance to visit the campus there it is spectacular. We conducted the cert in the athletic complex right next to the pool. At lunch we come outside into the beautiful So-Cal sun and were greeted by about 50 co-ed’s suning themselves pool side.
I tried to cancel the remainder of the cer, so we could all work on our Vit-D supply but was shot down on that idea. If you keep your eye’s peeled you will see two Olympians…and a man from Indiana.
Next stop: Seattle!

Robb,
An athlete of mine said she is supposed to have her gall bladder removed next week. It’s not life or death, so I suggested she wait. Doc said ok, we will do it this summer. My athlete says her GB is functioning at 13% and her doc said it needs to be at least 35%. She has been zoning since 1-1-09. Good results, but hasn’t bought into the paleo deal. I remember you saying at my cert last year that GB issues are usually undiagnosed celiac. I told her to go gluten free, and begged her to start taking fish oil. She said she’d try. How much fish oil. I suggested easing into 4x’s the dosage/day. Is this sufficient? Anything else you would suggest?

I guarantee this is celiac. One month of tinkering will prove it. Here is a little reading on the topic:

I am 6 ft tall and weight 220………..it’s not the carbs as i eat paleo 99% of the time…….there are only 2 things i can come up with why i don’t seem to be able to lose my chubbiness/fattyness.
Started eating this way in 1996 and became uber slim/thin then then weight crept up… a lot of muscle and a fair bit of fat of course
1. i eat too few calories
2.i work 3 nights per week.
I can’t really eat carbs daily in owt other than say 50 gms………if i’d eat say 100 or more on more than a day i feel very crappy.
I am always doing weights, never to failure, small amounts of plyometrics, a type of exercise i kind of devised based on ATP timings, cycle a bit and do sprints.Am rudely healthy and seldom sick.
Take pharm grade fish oils (NNaturals Ult Omega) Vit D, mag chelated, bit of pottasium, use a light box in the fall and Winter.
Can anyone out there please offer any ideas please ?
My email is [email protected] is anyone has any ideas.
Thanks much.

Brother Robb and Sister Nicki. Again, a huge “THANK YOU,” to both of you for a great time at the certification and an endless amount of knowledge to work with. We’re starting a Paleo challenge at the gym in 2 weeks, so we’ll keep you posted on how that goes. Currently I’m on day 4 with no sugar and/or gluten. As of yet, neither person, place or thing have been damaged…. but I’m a little on edge to say the least… any suggestions?! Take Care!

Hi Robb,
It was nice to meet you in person (sans the glasses).
Question: What cooking oil is preferred for cooking Paleo Diet foods in?

Olive oil and coconut oil are my faves. Coconut for higher temp cooking.

Just a quick question. I have been crossfiting for about 6 months now and have in the past few months begun to try the zone diet. I am 21/M/6’0″/172lbs. I have noticed that since January when i began zoning that my weight has steadily decreased. I typically eat 5 5 block meals a day sometimes more protein. I am having trouble maintaining weight. I am not really sure why as I am not trying to loose weight. I also know it’s not from carb reduction because for 4 months before that i was eating a very carb restricted diet. The zone diet has been a step up in carbs. The only thing i can think of is a decrease in protein, but even still it’s not like my protein intake has drastically reduced. I typically sleep between 7 and 9 hours a day and my crossfit training involves training a wod 3 days on 1 day off. Thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

You need to increase your fat! Read the FAQ, 42 Ways to Skin the Zone, and The Golden Ratio articles for exact details.
