Well…I managed to survive my b-day WOD which was 185lb Clean & Jerk (body weight) x age (37). Time to completion:18:42. It was rough but interestingly it was faster than previous years even though I’m 25 lbs heavier AND have done virtually no met-con. Who-woulda-thunk’t-it? Strength seems to matter! It was tough to do this little buggar with my left index finger still in a splint but the completion of every jerk looked like a Dimas-style “#1”. Funny.
I also managed to survive our combination b-day/ 5 years in business party. BBQ, gluten free beer, wine and “NorCal Margaritas” (Tequila+Soda water+lemon Juice)…I think 6 GALLONS of tequila alone was consumed. Kreiki! We had two live bands and I’m still a little hung-over from the whole thing. Luckily stuff like this does not happen too frequently.
We had folks from all over at this event. David Osorio and Margie Lempert from CrossFit South Brooklyn (they thought their rental car was stolen…reported it to Hertz and the cops…the police officer dispatched to the call calmly pointed out “I think that is you car right there…) Dutch was out for his Trainer development gig and that was awesome. Parties are always better when a Texan is in the house. We had a bunch of the crew from CrossFit Redding and Crossfit Oroville. All the NorCal affiliates a re a little spread-out but we are going to make a better effort to do more with our neighbors. Andy Deas was out from Arizona…Andy has been instrumental in improving the content and flow of my nutrition cert…thanks big-man! His Fiancé Rachael flew from Phoenix to Sacramento Friday night, then drove to Chico at midnight…thanks girl!
The last five years have been an amazing experience, both at our local box and the greater CrossFit community. I cannot thank our clients, trainers, friends and family for their unending love and support. I absolutely love what I do…it’s a lot of work but it’s tough to imagine doing anything else.
A belated happy-birthday to OPT and Ken Urakawa who were also hatched on the 24th. In James’ case in a Galaxy far, far away…
To Nicki: You’re my girl. Thank you for everything you do.

Robb,
Congratulations on both the Birthday and the WOD – SWEET WORK!
Sent off an email earlier – got a great location for cert… even with kitchen available!!
I’d love to lock in a date for end of 09. Let me know, and I’ll finalize everything. 😎
Oh… Book?
Talk with ya soon!
John

I had a fantastic time in Chico. Robb and Nicki are exceptional hosts – I mean, the (literally) pounds of bacon with which we were plied were enough to make anyone swoon. Everyone in Chico is so damned lucky to have those two around. Everyone at NorCal pretty much kicks ass.
And listen, the whole rental car debacle was totally your fault Robb! If you hadn’t turned 37 and had this big ole party and invited all these fun people and forced us to consume a sick amount of BBQ, gluten free chocolate bombs and far too much fermented beverage then maybe I would have remembered where I parked the car.
Ok, the weekend was totally worth losing the rental car in the hotel parking lot. It was such a treat to be there. And those C & J’s were legit!
Now, I notice you did not mention your special paleo man birthday dance. Why’s that? Hmmmm?
Can’t wait to see you guys again.
I’m just glad you left out the Nitrous tanks and hookers! Missing you guys already.
Brad says
That is a shin-dig I will not miss again.
Happy B-day and congrats!
Ken Urakawa says
Seriously, 185?! I can only imagine.
Congratulations on the milestone(s). I feel bad that I copped out with a measly 37 pullups for fun…
Well…we are in the rareified category of “Old, Male affiliate owners”. We get to do what we bloody well please!
Anthony Bainbridge - CrossFit Fredericton says
Happy birthday Big Guy! 185!! GOMAD seems to be working for ya! 200 by the time the qualifiers role around or what?
I’m debating on that…I’ve leaned out a bit, just was hammered by the amount of food. Running a pretty strong 182…I think I could be pretty freaking strong at 200. Hmmmm we’ll see!
Allen Y says
Happy Birthday!
37 x BW C+J’s with 1 finger in a splint….you are a beast.
Luila Barber says
Hey, Robb, great to see you and Nikki in Austin, TX. I just turned 37 as well….hmmmm, I wonder how old I will have to be to finally be able to do your birthday prescribed wod’s! Do statistics show that I will be stronger than you at any point? Maybe at age 90? Hmmm….
Once I’m dead you will be able to kick my ass pretty thoroughly!! Great to see you girl!
