It snowed in Atlanta…damn it was cold! Nicki and I had a great time however and we really want to thank Dan “The Godfather” Macdougal for inviting us out AND a huge thank-you to all the folks who came out for the wing-ding!
Atlanta is a great town and I’d like to get back out there when we get a chance.
Robb, I’m trying to employ the “50% daily carbs PWO meal” technique that I’ve seen you reccomend so many times. You’ve mentioned that the starchy PWO meal should be eaten as close to immediately after the WOD as possible. I usually don’t eat until 30 minutes or more after the workout. I was wondering how much time I can let elapse before that window of glycogen replenishment opportunity closes.
Ryan-
Things are optimal within 30 min but still effective up to an hour after training. You are fine the way you are working it.
Thanks for coming out to GA Robb. We had a great time at the cert. I’ve already started tweaking my diet and moving towards 100% Paleo.
I’m sure you’ll see an email or two from me in the near future. Thanks again for the wonderful info, I really enjoyed meeting you and Nicki.
Thanks, Robb! The info you shared was excellent. I applied it that night. Can’t wait to see my results.
Awesome information, Robb. Glad you and Nicki braved the cold and snow to share your insights compelling message with us.
Looking forward to seeing my how my body comp changes.
Awesome Cert. You and Nicki put on a great show. I think you finally convinced my wife and other training partners to cut the grains.
I’m the ophthalmologist from the cert, and all I can say is it is a shame we can’t convince traditional medicine to work more with you on your nutritional approach to disease. I’m mainly a surgeon, but know dozens of medical guys who wouldn’t listen to any of this, frustrating to say the least. Anyway, keep up the efforts, at least your clients and those of the CrossFit community will benefit from it. Also, please see what your thoughts are on the natural TG fish oil vs ethyl ester form as far as absorption/bioavailability. Have a great one.
Jay!
It was great to meet you. The reality is this whole CrossFit movement is affecting great change. We will not change all the minds, but that’s ok…just the ones who are open to the possibility of netter health. I’ll do some digging on the TG/EE issue with the fish oil.
Robb,
I’m sorry I was not able to make the cert. I’ve heard so many good things about it. I have a few questions and will be emailing you soon. Thanks brother!
Mike G
Missed seeing you there Amigo!! Will hopefully see you when we get back out there for the fall!
Robb, my mother’s doctor wants her to start taking statins. From what I’ve read on the CA and CF forums, these should usually be avoided if possible. I’ve sent her links to Dr. Ravnskov’s site as well as to the relevant posts on theiflife.com and Mark’s Daily Apple. What other resources/studies/etc. can you point me towards regarding statins, cholesterol, and the link (or lack thereof) between cholesterol and heart disease?
Chris-
Check out Dr’ Eades site. He has some great posts on this topic. Statins are useful for a tiny sub-fraction of 55-60 year old men who have already HAD a heart attack. It has never been shown to help women at any point of their CVD progression. Yesh…
Snow? Come on Cali boy….I live in Atl and there was about 100 flakes that disappeared before ever hitting the ground, Shesssh. But you are right…it is cold! Wish I knew you were in town, would of met you out for a gluten free beer! Glad it all went well!
MOD!! We will be back in the Fall, I’ll give you a heads up on that one. I;d like to hang out a little longer next time. Great town!
Robb,
It was a pleasure meeting you guys this past weekend, the nutrition cert was great! I decided to make the switch over to strict paleo and cut out all of the milk products. Im sure I will have a few questions for you in the next few weeks, take it easy Robb.
Thanks Robb,
The 6 hour drive from Jacksonville was well worth it! The information you’ve provided is potent and your delivery is very practical!
Thanks again for braving the snow!
P.S. – your ‘Teeter-totter joke IS Funny!’
You are TOO kind sir! That joke has died a thousand deaths! Thanks again for coming out!
Hey Robb, Jesse from Redding here.
I am trying to get a buddy that is about one hundred pounds over weight buddy in to Crossfit and also on Paleo Zone. He really seems interested but has gout in his foot and thinks the diet will exacerbate the problem (as well as keep him from doing the workouts). Any words of wisdom in relation to gout? Obviously he has been told to reduce his protein consumption as well as alcohol consumption.
Jesse-
Gout is 100% a metabolic issue stemming from high insulin levels. Get him a copy of Protein Power:lifeplan. A low purine diet is not the fix, a low insulin diet is.
Robb,
I am currently in the middle of gaining a lot of weight for O-lifting. I am trying to get my recovery in order. I have done a gallon of milk a day in the past but I didn’t feel like it helped my recovery as much as just eating lots of almonds all day did. This is of course in addition to lots of regular food like meat etc. Do you have an opinion on drinking olive oil? That seems like the logical next step to me from scarfing down almonds all day. Although it is horrific in the US, it seems like lots of cultures actually drink it straight, not to mention successful athletes.
Thanks,
Weston
W-
I think a combo of dairy, big eating and just fitting in as many cals as you can via olive or coconut oil is the way to go. I’m not sure what you mean in the recovery piece but if you throw in some PWO cold immersion it will kick things up significantly.
How about some thoughts on lard (not to be confused with Lard Ass)?
http://www.proteinpower.com/drmd_blog/?p=268
I love lard. If you can find some pastured pork which has not been raised with grains, all the better.
Robb,
Can’t wait to get to a nutrition cert. It looks like it will be a blast.
Hi Robb,
I just finished reading Cordain’s “Paleo Diet” for my husband who was at the Atlanta cert. He was the firefighter who wanted more videos on the site so he wouldn’t have to read so much (I can’t believe he said that to you:) Anyway, he learned a lot from you that weekend and I just wanted to say thanks from the whole family.
Jess! Thanks for the kind words! Tell your hubby I’ve shot about 30 min of cooking videos since then…they should be up soon!
Robb,
Since all of your certs. seem to sell-out immediately, I would like to ask you just a couple of quick questions, please. I e-mailed you earlier this year regarding the Warrior Diet and have taken your advice on the modifications. FYI, energy is up and bodyfat is dropping like a stone in water. Thank You very much. Anyway, I was really curious to know what you think of Ezekiel Bread. Iknow, I know it is grains, however for budgetary reasons I think it would help to satisfy my hunger from time to time. Also, Flax seed oil vs. fish oil? Any difference? Omega 3,6 and 9 is Omega 3,6, and 9 any way you put it, am I correct? I promise if you ever get back to the Carolina’s I am DEFINITELY signing-up. I gotta get one of those Wilmington, NC affiliate’s to commit.
Paul-
Ezekial still poses a significant Gluten load…satisfy that hunger with more coconut oil and almond butter! Stick with fish oil…no comparission to flax.
Robb, Thank You. I know that you are slammed right-now. I promise about that cert, though.
