This post is particularly amusing to me because this hierarchy of kickbacks reminds me of Josh Freese’s limited releases of his solo album a couple of years ago…

I hope you reminded Mark that NY best sellers list only counts individual purchases. So, if purchasing multiple books do it in separate purchases. That is, if this is still applicable. I remember you mentioning it during your push for the list. I don’t know if it is still true.

Mark Sisson is the MAN. Luv him and his blog! His carb curve and suggestions for exercise (sprinting once in a while, lots of slower movement), etc., helped me get off of a weight loss plateau I had been on for YEARS. He is right, calories still count even on a low carb diet. But beyond that life without grains is great! whether for weight loss or other health issues.
robin says
Will Canadians be able to help and receive the special offers as well?
Suzanne says
According to Mark’s Daily Apple, he has opened up the offer for the free electronic content for the 1-2 and 3-7 book offers.
Suzanne says
I meant to write, he has opened up the offer for the free electronic content for the 1-2 and 3-7 book offers for international customers as well.
robin says
sweet! thanks.
Roland says
You have to buy it via Amazon.com (not UK, etc.) and have it shipped internationally for it to count.
Patrick says
I want Marks life: “I’m playing with the dolphins and chatting with my paddle buddies.” Ha!
DB999 says
I love that the two most articulate spokesmen for this lifestyle are on the same page. They don’t have to squabble over small differences in their take on it. Unity man!
John48221 says
I agree! Both want the same thing.
Cathy says
Every time I hear Mark Sisson talk I love him more. Just listening to his happy voice makes me want to add more play time into my life so I can be just as happy.
Roland says
That was a very good podcast, and a nice one to share with new people who are just getting interested or on the verge of jumping into this paleo thing.
I sure hope he gets on the NY Times list. I’d love to have more attention drawn to this stuff.
Andrew says
Bought my copy last night, although from Amazon Canada so not sure it will count. Nonetheless I will spread the word in hopes you make the list.
Its interesting that McGuff keeps coming up lately in podcasts I listen to b/c I’ve been experimenting with some of his stuff. My biggest concern with it is it just feels way too darn short and I’d like to split it up over a couple of days. I think Robb you mentioned something similar in a podcast awhile back.
After reading through McGuff’s book, Art De Vany’s, and part’s of Mark’s book (reading it full through now) I think I’ve landed on something usable. Essentially I borrow Art’s 3-set approach but I end up using some of Mark’s body weight exercises in the first set or two to fatigue the slow/intermediate twitch muscles and then finish off with McGuff’s compound movements.
I split McGuff’s 5 movements in two (2 one day, 3 the other) and add on 2 pre-movements in front of each to fatigue those parts of the body a bit before. One to two other days per week I do some sprint intervals and then the remaining part of the week I relax and do something leisurely each day like take a walk on a sunny or play with my kids out in the yard.
Thoughts?
Robb, if you ever do get Doug on the show it would be great to have somebody like Mark or Art on as well maybe to chat about how some of their approaches gel with Doug’s. Doug also had a blog post somewhat recently where I was excited to see him question whether a fairly clean Paleo-style nutrition regimen may be able to shorten recovery time. When I read his book and saw that the standard 7-day rest period was based past experience, the first question I thought was ‘well what were they eating?’. If you have him on I’d be interested to know if he’s looked into it a bit more since then.
Mark Sisson says
Hey, Everyone! Thanks for your kind comments and for your support in buying the book (and even if you didn’t, thanks for listening to our podcast). As of this morning we were sitting at #3 overall on Amazon. Glad to see there’s recognition of how much Robb and I agree on things here, too. I think that’s critical for our growing community. I can sense that we are close to a tipping point with the Paleo/Primal/Ancestral movement – even within the medical community. Inch by inch…
FYI, I have been trying to get McGuff to do a guest post on MDA for a while, but he’s been a bit swamped with work recently. It’s a really interesting topic and there’s a lot to cover, so I like the idea of a podcast here, too. I’ll work on Robb. Thanks again.
Andy says
In all honesty, I think Mark Sisson is great, but the whole 21 day, 30 day thing just seems cheap to me. I’m always suspicious of books which promise me things …
Mark Sisson says
Andy, I see where you are coming from. The challenge here is to get a foot in the door in a competitive world. A book is usually titled and designed to be sold from a store shelf. I believe that I (we) have some great information here that will positively affect the reader’s life. That’s not enough. I have to get him or her to pick up the book, read both the front and back cover in 13 seconds and make a decision to purchase. I have to do this among hundreds of other “similar” books hoping to attract the buyer’s attention, and to do so without deceiving. It’s not an easy task. The 21 days in this case is truly what we know from research to be the requisite amount of time to effectively upregulate/downregulate enzyme systems, to redirect energy pathways, reframe habits, etc etc. The “promise” is not that you will lose 50 pounds, but that you will certainly be “transformed” in 21 days. So, will it prompt the reader to purchase more than a book that offers “8 second abs”? We’ll see.
Andy says
I have no doubt there is a lot of great information in the book that can positively affect people’s lives in that time frame, my worry is just that people will lump it in with the ‘8 second abs’ books and not see it as substantive. Thanks for replying though Mark – I’m still gonna buy it anyway (loved your first one).
Squatchy says
Good interview. I really like Mark’s work and have been following his stuff for a long time (Grok on!)
I think the new 21-day transformation book sounds great, and will probably get a lot more people on board. I hope it reaches NYT Best-Seller status.
I’m really looking forward to the book about filling in the rest of the lifestyle (mental, relaxation, play, etc). While being a huge and very important piece, diet is only part of the puzzle. I think that a book like Mark was saying he is working on is exactly whats needed right now and would benefit a lot of people. I can’t wait to see what he has to say about it all.
Tracey says
WOW, Mark finally mentions calories DO matter for weight-loss..lol:)
This was an excellent interview/podcast!
Steve says

After reading Mark’s explanation of “Why Melatonin is a Dangerous Supplement” (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/before-you-close-your-eyes-make-sure-theyre-open/#axzz2IqEF2dW4) I find it hard to take him seriously. Basically the reason melatonin is “dangerous” is because he thinks (with no proof, evidence, or experimentation, just his own guess) that because melatonin is a hormone that means your body is going to produce less of it if you take a supplement. A very unscientific explanation for a bold claim. All the research I’ve found on the topic says taking melatonin is harmless.
