Robb,
Random question on training in the heat, specifically those hot yoga classes. I’ve been hitting one of those about once a week as an active rest day recently. Just happens to be that the closest place to me only does the hot classes, but the heat does seem to help tight muscles loosen up. Kinda amounts to spending an hour stretching in a sauna as far as I’m concerned.
Is there any negative effect to spending that much time under moderate exertion in that hot of an environment that I’m not thinking of? I always bring water and stay hydrated, but I look like I just got out of a pool when I’m done with the class.
I don’t have a scale, so I’m not sure how much water weight I may lose over the hour but I haven’t noticed any bad effects so far from the few times I’ve gone. Diet is good so I’m not too concerned with electrolyte imbalances or stuff like that, plus it doesn’t seem like it would be long enough to cause an issue there.
Curious on your thoughts. May be an interesting podcast topic. Looking forward to the book!

Mike-
The heat, the cold…anything CAN be a stress. I really like the hot yoga classes (i’m more of an ashtanga guy than Bikram though) but if it’s too hot it crushes me.
Mike says
Its actually a hot Ashtanga class, which I like better than the Bikram too. So far so good, and it seems to be helping with flexibility.
I’ll keep an eye on the heat though. Thanks for the input!
