I did read the Eva La Rue article. I then purchased the book from Amazon as well as a Paleo cookbook. Today, March 24, 2011 is my first day on the plan. I will update you in a month.
My background Info: I’m a 48yr old woman with 4 children. In my youth I was thin (apx 145lb a good weight for me) I have a strong curvey build. I was a runner when I was younger and stopped when I had little children to attend to. I lost weigh in my late 30’s (started workingout again and playing tennis) but gained it back by 44yrs. I have been struggling ever since. I have tried every diet and have had tests to see if my thyroid is not working properly. Test come back I’m fine. I have high cholesterol, 270 (it was 289)my HDL is good, 50, but my Triglycerides are 209 and my LDL’s are 178. My Doctor wants me to go on meds but I refuse. I’m too young to go on meds for the rest of my life.
Wish me luck!

Good luck, Erin! I’m no one special here, just a reader/lurker/rare-occasion commenter for a few years. You should be fine. My good-luck wishes have more to do with dealing with the people around you who will tell you that you are nuts, even as your body composition, bloodwork numbers, and overall health steadily improve. I’m in my mid 40’s, and that’s been my experience, anyway.

Everyone I talk to who is hesitant to try eating the paleo way always ends up saying those same words, “I’ve got to live.” Apparently you cannot give up bread, beer and sugar and also live at the same time. If this ends up being true, I fear I may be dying soon.

I noticed there is goat cheese in Eva’s breakfast printed in the article. All dairy is off limits, correct?
I am going out to buy your book today and can’t wait to end my lifelong love affair with sugar.
Robb Wolf says
It’s not about perfection, just close enough for you! If someone has autoimmunity, I’d pass on the cheese.

I had weightloss surgery almost 2 years ago. (vertical sleeve) I also live 2 states away from my family and friends (my support system). This has been one of the longest journeys of my life. I was 389 lbs when I had my surgery. Did I mention i’m only 25 years old?? I’m now 90 lbs away from my goal weight as of today. I just recently started doing Crossfit! I was a tri-athlete in high school. Once I was injured my senior year my whole life changed and of course came the weight. My crossfit team is amazing and are 100% believers of the paleo diet. I love the “heathen” workouts. I’m beyond ready to get a grip on this new way of life. I’m still reading your book, but super anxious to get started. I wish you had a seminar closer to me!
Any thing I should know about trying this diet out??? I’m wanting to get started after the Easter holidays! It’s crawfish season in LA 😉

Hi,
I’m a 33 yr old mother of 2. My Dr. diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s after the birth of my 2nd baby. It hit me hard. I had no idea what I was dealing with. And I was told I would be on meds and feel the way I did for the rest of my life. Great. I went to my local Natural Drug Store to pick up some vitamins and the pharmacist asked me if I was gluten free. I didn’t know what that meant so I went home and studied up on it only to find that consuming gluten was horrible for my auto-immune disease. I found this out 1 year after my diagnoses and very angry that my Dr. wouldn’t tell me something that I could do to help myself. Anyway I heard Rob on the Underground Wellness podcast and everything started to fall into place. I just bought the book and I will be starting the 30 days next week when the next grocery trip is scheduled. I’m sure it won’t just be a 30 day journey. I’m excited to see what my next blood work will look like after going Paleo. Thanks to Rob for getting the news out there that sickness isn’t the only option.

Awesome Tonya! Hashimoto’s can be very effectively managed with paleo. Make sure to check out Chrissy kresser’s work on this nd keep me updated on your progress.

Great! Thanks! I’m checking it out right now! I know a lot of people with thyroid disorders and no one knows about any of this information! And when I tell them they think I’ve lost my mind! They tell me if all this stuff were true then the Dr. would’ve told us. Well, hopefully my results will be an example to them and they will begin to get proactive about their condition. Thank you so much again!! Your a life-saver!

My pleasure, just trying to help folks. This wacky faith in the medical community is interesting to me. It takes years to change paradigms and the current model is shamefully inadequate in dealing with autoimmune issue. Just today the FDA issues a warning about increased infections stemming from many of the common autoimmune drugs.

I had a quick question…I tried to find the answer by myself but kept getting conflicting information. I just read in your book that if we are overweight or are dealing with an autoimmunity that our dose of fish oil should be quite high. Appx. 1g/10bls.of body weight So obviously I went and bought a huge bottle of fish oil. I then read that Dr. Kharrazian said…….. “In this study subjects with Hashimoto’s were divided into two groups. One group ate a normal diet. The other group was put on a diet that strictly avoided iodine so that they consumed less than 100 mcg per day. Eighty percent of the group who avoided dietary iodine experienced complete remission of their thyroid symptoms! Therefore I am asking my Hashimoto’s patients to avoid iodine rich foods, such as seafoods, seaweeds and iodized salt in order to see how this affects clinical outcomes.” Should I be concerned with the iodine in the fish oil? Is there another way to get the same benifits of the fish oil without the iodine? Thank you so much!
