This is part of an ongoing series of real life success stories from people all over the world who have been impacted by the Paleo lifestyle and The Paleo Solution. Read Janet’s story below.
Hi Robb,
I have been enjoying your podcasts and want to share my success with the Paleo lifestyle. I am 60 years old and feel better now than I have in the past 6 years! I have been struggling with my weight since my 40s. I had an ACL reconstruction then, and combined with going to graduate school with no time to cook, acquired a lot of terrible eating habits. I used to eat pizza and pasta at least 4 days a week, and usually served potatoes or rice when we had a meal that included meat. In the fall of 2010, my son told me of his concern for my health, and strongly urged me to change my habits. I had just returned from my annual physical where my doctor discussed my weight issue and the fact that I was pre-diabetic, so I was open to anything.
So after the first of the year, I vowed to change my ways, cleared the pantry and re-stocked it with Paleo-compliant foods. It was very challenging at first, because I work in a school where there are always sweets and bagels, etc. available for someone’s birthday or workshop or special event. My lunchtime buddies were bringing in all kinds of pasta meals and microwaving processed foods that at the time, smelled so good!
Paleo was tough, because I had to think about what I was eating all the time, and had to forgo all of the sweets that I craved. I fell off the wagon quite a few times. But then the weight started to come off, my resolve held, and to date I have lost 25 lbs! On top of that I feel wonderful. I am fortunate that we have Wegman’s Markets to shop in, where I can get grass-fed beef and all manner of organic veggies and fruits. My goal is to lost 40 more pounds, and with daily exercise I know I can do it. Thank you for all the good work you do!
