James Atkinson says
This was a interesting episode on a lot of different levels. Initially i tuned in for his experience with Low Carb diets.
And it points out again why a lot of people think a Low Carb diet is superior for performance for a lot of people. What with his lowered inflammation etc..
I was also interested in his training though. I randomly did a binge of Marty Gallagher articles last week, and i thought about them when i listened to this. Because while Marty has a lot of tools in the tool box, in which some include more volume, a lot of his preferences are for more minimal training. Doing fewer things better. He mentioned he was frustrated recently because he brought his crew to do a seminar for a bunch of beginners and supposed intermediates and afterwards he watched the people workout, and they all proceeded to ignore what he talked about ha ha ha They all did more exercises more volume, with no real focus on form.
Now a days we here of daily training for Olympic lifters all the time. But here with Derrick we have one of the best, who seems to have it really dialed in with recovery, and growth, and when to ramp things up.
The other thing i caught, was when he mentioned his core, he mentioned Dead Bugs, Bird Dogs and crawling, and it made me wonder if he had come across Original Strength, it seemed something out of their playbook
Really interesting all around
