This was the first time we did back-to-back nutrition certs but things went great. Both crowds had loads of questions and seemed to have a pretty good time. A huge thanks to Neal and his crew for hosting the event, a big thnk you to Mat Lalonde who presented the Zone material on day two. Mat, along with Bobbi Milsap will become the East Coast cert team at some point. I have a post in the work on that. Thanks again to everyone who attended!!

Thank you again Robb, it was great. The pictures and stories that you had on the people that did 2 classes a week with unweighed/unmeasured Paleo was great. Stuff like that is very powerful to people who haven’t quite bought into Paleo yet. It helps me sell it rather than just saying, “Gluten is the Devil!” Also the visual with the two different colored markers to illustrate how the body develops anti-bodies to good and bad proteins (mylin sheath and gluten respectively) was an easy way to visualize a much more complex topic. Can’t wait for that paper to be published! Good teeter totter joke too.

Amazing Amazing
You not only gave great advice and re-motivated everyone and everyone we know to get back on the paleo/zone horse….
But you also forced me to see some old friend in Boston, and made for a very memorable weekend

I’m not sure I can agree about the teeter-totter joke, however, I would like to give a big thanks as well 🙂 The class was awesome. I really feel confident that I can navigate paleo/zone and stop shuffling around food, the topic of why I’m trying to eat this way and best of all the: you’re making your kids eat that?! question. Also, the: “this is her 10 months after her third baby” was just the kick I needed to go all the way. Now I’m not trying to eat that way, I AM eating that way. By the way, unless it’s a covert operation, there has not been a peasant revolt as of yet at our house. No one even noticed bread missing from the table. Thanks again.

Missy-
The teter-totter joke is Genius…you will warm up to it!
It’s interesting…if we do not make a big deal about something, often kids do not either.

Robb, I was at the Sunday cert and I wanted to thank you for providing that opportunity to us. I learned a lot about how to better present the nutritional information and recommendations to people and found a lot of the topics you talked about to be extremely informative. I’m still going through the information picking up new pieces and even forming more questions! Thanks again for a great cert. Hopefully you were able to get that tequila and nachos!

Robb,
Thanks so much for having the conference call with my clients. I have already received 5 phone calls from my clients thanking me for hosting it. I would recommend to any affiliate owner, if they want to get their clients’ diets dialed in, to make time for a call. We will do this again soon. Get back to writing that book!!! Chat soon…. Dave

My pleasure Dave and thanks for the great questions.

Robb,
I can’t thank you enough for the great information and motivation. It was nice to finally see / hear you in peson as opposed to just lurking on your blog – you really get a different impression of this stuff through your obvious passion for it. As everyone has noted so far, it goes a long way in getting you from thinking / talking about eating right, to actually eating right. And thanks for the thorough gluten=satan understanding – very compelling and fascinating stuff there.

Mental lapse in writing quickly and trying to get back to work.
A huge thanks to Mathieu LaLonde as well for all his help at the Cert this weekend. Mat did a great job presenting the Zone section of the course material – for those who haven’t met him, this guy his own brand of genius. Very fun and engaging and obscenely smart as well.
Also, thanks to Neal and the entire Crossfit Boston staff / family for being such gracious hosts this weekend and opening up to 70+ people two days in a row. Look forward to seeing you all again soon!
robbwolf says
thanks Zach, I”l make sure Mat sees this. I’m really excited to get him and Bobbi on the road.

Hi Robb,
Thanks for a great class last weekend, i shot you an email via “contact me” few days ago regarding moving from a zone diet towards paleo diet. I am a vegetarian due to religious reasons and would like to know better vegetarian sources of protein which fit paleo. Would love to hear your feedback..thanks RaJ
robbwolf says
Raj-
tofu, temph…rice protein powders…you did say you eat eggs, yes? Just do the best you can within those parameters, keep your carbs just at a level that supports your activity needs and you should do pretty well. Keep me posted.
Ken says
Robb: Almonds, in natural and wild form, are poisonous. Does that disqualify them from being “paleo?”
robbwolf says
Ken-
Most nuts and seeds have some anti-nutrient activity. One can mitigate this by soaking overnight and then dryign the nuts in a food dehydrator…or not worry too much about it. if someone has GI problems, or an autoimmune condition I’d consider limiting nuts and or soaking them at the very least.

Thanks Squire..am in UK for Mum fiances,Mikes, funeral and serendipitously/fat tailed power-lawlly Dad has massively racing heart rate and atrial fibrillation.
They are ‘resetting’ his heart this week. A certain Dr we now and respect advised that he should be checked for thyroid problems.
What else can you tell me about bb’s and atrial fib pleasum.
Have slashed off 10 pponds of what i assume is mainly fluid since last Thursday on the famed and little known English egg and bacon diet !

Robb,
I’ve got a couple of questions regarding high blood pressure. My friend just graduated high school and is going on the play linebacker in college. He’s a really fit guy, about 6’2″ or 6’3″ and weight 220lb with probably 8% body fat. He mentioned today that he was going to decrease his meat intake and ramp up the carbs a bit because he has high blood pressure. My gut reaction since doing paleo and the zone was hell no. I told him he should look into ramping up some of the good fat sources in his diet and to avoid crap carbs (which I explained a little better). However, I really have no experience with this so I wanted to check with you to see if I am steering him in the right direction. How should he change his diet so he can still keep muscle and improve performance while keeping blood pressure to a normal level? Any help would be great. You’re the man.
James
robbwolf says
James-
you are on the right track. Fish oil and a paleo diet will move things in the right direction. This is a good example of someone who obviously has enviable performance stats but has some insulin control issues looming. Cyclic low carb is a good way to go in thsi scenario, especially for football. check out the Metabolic diet for a good template.

Hi Robb,
Being a vegetarian due to religious reasons i am finiding it hard to stay on Paleo and sometimes on zone as i only have cottage cheese, egg whites (i become a fart machine) and tofu. During the Boston Cert you mentioned you worked with a similar crossfitter in the past and i wonder if you could guide me. I also sent you an email in detail..
Thanks
